Goose Bay Council to Move Forward with Town Operations in Mayor’s Absence

Following a hunting accident on Saturday, December 9th involving Mayor for Happy Valley Goose Bay John Hickey, the Town Council met on Sunday to discuss the future operations of the Council during the Mayor’s absence.
It was a unanimous decision by Council to continue to operate in the usual manner.

Present at the discussion were MP Yvonne Jones and MHA Perry Trimper to offer support to the Council.

“At this time, we need to proceed with regular Town operations as if Mayor Hickey were present,” says Deputy Mayor Wally Andersen. “This is something Council knows he would want, especially as we are in the midst of the 2018 budget process.”

Deputy Mayor Andersen added, “We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to Mayor Hickey and his family and hope for a full recovery.”

The Town will be scheduling a candle light vigil for the community to share their prayers for Mayor Hickey and his family.

Details will be released to the public when available.
