Unexpected Power Outage in Nain Yesterday-UPDATED

There was an unexpected power outage in Nain, NL yesterday, November 20.

A resident from Nain was up around the Trouser Lake water treatment building area, and had reported to NL Hydro in Nain that they had sighted a big flash from behind them.

OK Radio spoke with Rick Kennedy, Regional Manager for NL Hydro in Labrador.

He says that the power went out around 3:45 pm, and came back on for a bit at 5 pm.

Half of the town’s power was back on at that time.

The power went out again in the upper part of town, but Kennedy says all the town’s power had been restored at around 7:43 pm.

Kennedy adds that once the weather clears, a team will come to Nain to check into the matter.

UPDATE: Another power outage occurred in Nain this afternoon from approximately 2:10 pm to 2:30 pm.

Rick Kennedy of NL Hydro advised workers are trying to isolate a problem with the water supply at Trouser Lake.

They are continuing to wait for a crew to arrive to further investigate the cause of the outage.

The arrival of the crew has been delayed due to poor weather conditions in Nain.

OK Radio will have more coverage on the cause of the power outage once it becomes available.
