Inuit Education Forum Taking Place

A National Forum for requiring additional supports in Inuit Education is taking place in Rankin Inlet (kangiglinik) this week, according to Inuit Tapiriit kanadami (ITK).

The forum started yesterday with a community feast, opening comments, and an opening prayer; there were also door prizes and a youth square dance.

Those events were followed by closing remarks in the evening from ITK’s forum facilitator, Heather Ochalski.

This morning’s agenda included housekeeping, project background, and structure of the National Forum.

The keynote speaker this morning was Nellie Kusugak, Commissioner of Nunavut.

She was followed by presentations on the theme of School Attendance: Successes, Gaps, and Solutions, from presenters from Nunavut, Inuvialuit and Nunatsiavut.

In the afternoon, breakout group sessions on the school attendance theme are taking place.

Those are followed by Inuit Pedagogy (Teaching methods), including presentations and another breakout group session.

Ok radio will have more on the agenda from the Inuit Education Forum tomorrow.
