Bell Aliant Internet Upgrade Update

Randy Edmunds, MHA for Torngat Mountains, had this update from Bell Aliant on his Facebook status on Tuesday October 17, 2017, regarding the upgrade of the broadband internet on the North Coast:

The following is an update from Bell Aliant on the Broadband updates:

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that we resolved the technical issue with the existing radio system in Makkovik, and it has been connected to the new backbone system. Staff are on site this week to migrate customers to the new DSL equipment in the office, and once that is complete, we will be re-opening the community for new broadband sales. Broadband capacity has been increased from 12Mbps to 90Mbps with this change.

Fibre cable placements have been completed in Nain, Hopedale, Makkovik and Postville to identified buildings. The crew is currently in Natuashish and, once complete, they will finish up in Rigolet.

Thus, the overall project is nearing completion. We are very hopeful that we will soon hear some good news regarding our Labrador South and North proposals under the Connect To Innovate program, so that we can continue the momentum, and provide for further bandwidth enhancements to the region.
