Ethel Pijogge Heritage Festival Starting April 1st

The Annual Ethel Pijogge Heritage Festival will be starting on April 1st 2017 in Hopedale, NL.

There will be a snow sculpture competition on March 31st.

However, it’s a competition that the local people hold themselves.

The actual events for the Ethel Pijogge Heritage Festival start on April 1st.

The snow sculpture competition will take place on Friday, March 31st from 3 to 5 p.m.

People who would like to participate must register with recreation staff at the Nanuk Community Centre by 4 p.m. on Monday March 27.

There will be cash prizes.

On Saturday, April 1st at 9 a.m., the Ethel Pijogge Memorial Dog Team Race will be off and running.

A warm up test for the mushers will be down on the ice.

There will also be hot chocolate, a food sale, and family games.

At 8 p.m. a Gregoire Boys’ Concert will take place at the Nanuk Community Centre.

The concert is free of charge and family friendly.

On Monday, April 3rd from 7:45 to 9 a.m., there will be a community breakfast at the Amos Comenius Memorial School.

It ‘s a free breakfast, and open to all community members.

From 6 to 8 p.m., a family Easter craft night will be on the go.

Families can go and build Easter baskets, and then do an Easter egg hunt around the Nanuk Centre.

Tuesday, April 4th from 5 to 7 p.m., there will be a mini fair at the Nanuk Centre.

Tables are $10.00 each, and bingo cards will be sold during the fair.

There will be a hall bingo at 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday, April 5th, the beauty pageant will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Nanuk Centre.

There is no registration fee, and there will be cash prizes.

A community feast goes from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., also at the Nanuk Centre.

Special Guests from ITK will be bringing caribou, and it is a DHSD sponsored meal.

A traditional dress competition goes from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

It will take place after the community feast, and will be judged by the special guests from ITK.

A Target Shoot and Skeet Shoot will take place on Thursday April 6th from 4 to 6 p.m.

It is $5 for 3 shots, and will be taking place at the old dump.

You must bring your own rifle ammo; shells will be provided for other guns, and there will be cash prizes.

At 7:30 p.m. is a giant radio bingo.

Cards will be sold at the Nanuk Centre from 1 to 3 p.m.

The bingo is at 7:30 p.m. due to PST night.

The Inuit Games are Friday April 7th.

Ages 0-5 is at 10 a.m. at Nanuk Centre. School age will be at the Amos Comenius Memorial School from 1 to 3 p.m. and 18 plus is at the Nanuk Centre from 6 to 8 p.m.

There will be cash prizes.

The Labrathon will run from 1 to 4 p.m.

The registration fee is $10 per person, and there must be four people per team.

It will take place down on the ice, and there will be cash prizes.

On Saturday, April 8th from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., a fishing derby will be held.

There is a $10 registration fee; you can keep your fish or donate it to the community freezer.

The weigh-in is from 6 to 7 p.m.
