Nain Fish Plant Still Has Char for Sale

There’s still a week left for anyone wanting to buy the last of the smoked char and other char from the fish plant in Nain.

The last day of sales is Friday, September 30.

Deidi Kohlmeister is the Office Supervisor.

She says today is the last day of smoking char at the plant.

They now have 6 plant workers left, not counting herself and manager, John Ikkusek.

Kohlmeister says a total of 52,000 pounds of char was landed this summer, which is 12,000 more pounds than last year, but their goal was 60,000 pounds.

She says the demand for smoked char is increasing yearly and this year a total of 11,729 pounds of char was smoked.

The goal was 9,600 pounds.

Kohlmeister added all the processed char will be shipped out on the next freight boat, the Astron.

She added the fish plant cleanup starts next week.
