Inuit Bachelor of Education Program Promoting Inuttitut

The students who are taking the Inuit Bachelor of Education Program will be taking their break in August.

There are 14 students who are taking part in the first of its kind program that is being sponsored by the Nunatsiavut Government and the Memorial University of Newfoundland.

The purpose of the program is to get more of our Inuit people in the education field.

Doris Boase of Hopedale is one of the students taking part in the four year program.

Boase says that they are learning Inuttitut throughout the entire program and she is hopeful that she will be able to successfully speak and teach her mother tongue.

Boase adds that singing in Inuttitut is really beneficial to pronounce Inuttitut words; they listen to an Inuttitut song and follow the songs with written lyrics.

Susanna Jararuse of Makkovik is the Inuttitut instructor.

We hope to speak with Jararuse sometime next week to find out how well the program is going.
