Inuktitut Speak-Off Held Last Night (Audio)

The 13th Inuktitut Speak-Off went really well in Rigolet last evening.

We spoke to Ellen Adams of Rigolet and Hulda Rice of Makkovik, who are both Inuktitut teachers in their communities.

Adams says the students did very well, but were a bit nervous at first.

Rice says the grade 4-6 students sang the Nunatsiavut Anthem “Labradorimiut”, and the grade 2 and 3 students sang O’ Canada.

Here are the results for the Speak-Off:

Ryden Andersen of Makkovik: 94 Total points.

Paulette Rice of Makkovik: 90 Total points.

Shania Williams of Rigolet: 99 Total points.

Brenda Flowers of Hopedale: 98 Total points.

Amber Saksagiak of Nain: 100 Total points.

Nathan Jacque of Rigolet: 92 Total points.

Caroline Nochasak of Nain: 99 Total points.

The teachers presented a Certificate, Plaque and pair of Kamiks to each of the participants.

And the Students presented a pair of Kamiks to each of the teachers as well.

The Judges were Katie Haye of Makkovik, and Sam Palliser and Paul Jararuse of Rigolet.
