Natuashish RCMP have confirmed that a body located yesterday afternoon by searchers outside Natuashish is that of Kirby Mistenapeo.
At approximately 10:30 yesterday morning, Natuashish RCMP learned that local searchers had located human remains on the ice approximately 11 kilometres west of the community, in an area known as Little Sango Bay.
RCMP confirmed that the remains are those of 17-year-old Kirby Misteapeo, who had been missing from Natuashish since April 21, 2016.
An extensive 7-day land and air search was conducted for the teen, but was hampered by poor weather.
RCMP continue to investigate this incident, and are now assisting the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.
