Photo, Essay Contest Winners Announced

In recognition of Women’s History Month, held in Canada every October, the Nunatsiavut Government, through its Status of Women’s office, provided Beneficiaries of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement the opportunity to participate in photo and writing contests.

Beneficiaries were open to submit essays, short stories, and poems in the writing category, while photo entries centered on family, traditional and community.

Of the nine entries in the writing contest, the winner was Jody Lane of Makkovik.

Honorable mentions went to Maria Harris of Nain, Toby Obed of Hopedale and Margaret Parsons of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

A total of 41 photos were received, with Samantha Jacque of Postville chosen as the winner.

Honorable mentions went to Kristy Sheppard of Rigolet and Joyce Andersen of Ontario.

The Status of Women’s office would like to thank everyone who submitted entries to the contest.

Tune into OK radio next week to hear more about the photo and essay contest winners from Status of Women Coordinator Charlotte Wolfrey.
