AnânauKatiget Mourns Loss Of Former Women’s Advocate

AnânauKatiget Tumingit President Sophie Pamak extends her condolences to the family and friends of a well-known advocate for Women, Children and the under- privileged, Ruth Flowers.

“Ruth was a very inspirational lady and a strong advocate for Inuit women in Labrador. Her lobbying and advocacy work played a fundamental role in the establishment of safe houses for Women on the North Coast.
Her strength and determination to see RCMP stationed at Rigolet, Makkovik, and Postville was unwavering during the many years it took to come to fruition. Ruth wanted safer and happier communities for us all. Something she indeed did accomplish.” says Pamak.

From the early days of LIA, Ruth lobbied to bring women’s issues to the forefront and her contributions to TIA (the former Inuit Women’s association) were profound.

Ruth travelled locally, regionally, nationally and even internationally to bring her message far and wide.

“Ruth had great strength of character and an uncanny ability to make you feel special in her world” adds Pamak.

“She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her”.
