North Coast Community Freezer Update

OK Radio contacted the north coast communities about their community freezers.

In Hopedale, we spoke to Martha Winters- Abel, the Regional Coordinator for her community.

She says they have char, moose meat and cod in their community freezer.

Winters- Abel adds the freezer is open to anyone who would like wild meat.

And they are open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

In Nain, Dorothy Angnatok is the Research Outreach worker.

She says they have seal meat, char, pigeons, and ducks in their freezer.

Angnatok adds that they have been receiving a lot of donations, including ones from Harry Haye, Connie Pijogge and Scott Andersen.

The Nain Community freezer is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

We also contacted Shirley Goudie from Postville, the Town Manager for her community.

She says they have a few pieces of moose meat and cod in their freezer.

The freezer is also for everyone, and they are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

In Makkovik, we spoke to the AngajukKâk, Herb Jacque; He said there isn’t much in the freezer, just a few char and a couple of pieces of moose meat.

We also tried to contact the Rigolet Inuit Community Government, but no one was available to speak to us.
