This year’s Great Labrador Canoe Race took place on Saturday August 22nd at the Churchill River in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
Joseph Townley and his canoe race partner Rory Blake from North West River placed first in the Classic Plus.
They were both awarded $200 cash.
The racers usually do the Classic race, but this year they chose to do the Classic Plus.
Townley says out of the six years the canoe race has been running, this is the 4th year he’s won a race.
In fact, he has a four year winning streak going now.
He says that they started from the causeway of the Churchill River, and ended at Birch Island.
There were 10 teams in the Classic Plus.
In total, there were 32 teams entered in the race.
