20th Multi-Cultural Youth Gathering

This year marks the 20th Multi-Cultural Youth Gathering.

The deadline to apply was July 27, 2015 but has extended to August 7, 2015.

We spoke to Zack Hajjaoui who is the special events coordinator with the LFC.

This event will be taking place Aug. 7-10, 2015 at the Labrador Christian Youth Camp.

10 Youth have applied so far, with the maximum being 24.

Anyone aged 13-18 can apply from anywhere along the Coast of Labrador to Upper Lake Melville.

“This year’s theme is, ‘Our world, our view.”

Guest speakers include: John Rice with the Mental Health Association from Ontario, Rebecca Watts a student at a university in British Columbia from North West River, Jodie Ashini who is the first Innu archeologist from Sheshatshiu, Roxanne Rich and Douglas Ashini from SSS who will be doing a sweat lodge, and Colin Hibbs HIV/AIDS Coordinator from NWR talking about Safe sex.

Activities include: Canoeing, throat singing, swimming, and more

Hajjaoui himself took part in an MCYG eight years ago.

He feels it’s a great event for youth to be involved in, and added even though Labradorians are more connected then ever today with social media, it’s still important to get together in person.
