ICG Summer Projects: Hopedale and Postville

OKalâKatiget radio has been phoning each of the coastal Inuit Community Government offices to get updates on what’s happening in the communities.

We spoke with Jim Tuttauk, the AngajukKak for the Hopedale Inuit Community Government.

Nunatsiavut Government Construction is the contractor hired to do a leak program.

They are contracted to do work done on their 2 main reservoirs and infrastructure work is also being done this summer.

Tuttauk says this morning 4 summer students were hired on as the Hopedale Green Team.

He says one of the students has been hired to work with the Community Freezer and the Green Team.

And Hopedale will be getting their first fire hall, to be built next to the RCMP station.

Tuttauk added the Hopedale’s Women’s shelter will be hoping to get their program out this year.

We also spoke with Shirley Goudie, the Town Manager in Postville.

She says right now they have 3 students hired.

One student will be helping the Recreation assistant, another student will be working at the Radio Station, and the third student will be doing labourer work.

Goudie says the Fun in The Sun Festival is scheduled to take place on July 29- August 2.

She says that they hope to move into their new Postville KaipokKak Community Center.

Goudie adds they hope to have the new Fire hall open later this year.

Funding was approved to get 10 fire hydrant houses built and installed around the community this summer.

There will also be upgrading done to the landscaping on a couple of sub division lots in their new subdivision located on High View Drive.
