Hopedale Water Situation Update (Audio)

The town of Hopedale remains in a State of Emergency due to the water problems they have had since this winter.

Jim Tuttauk is the AngajukKak of the Inuit Community Government.

He says he hopes to have the State of Emergency lifted sometime soon.

He explained this is to make sure everything is working properly and that they don’t end up losing their water supply again.

Tuttauk says the residents and businesses have had their water hooked back up in the past 2 to 3 weeks.

He says they did not receive any help from the province when they were going through the water problem.

But in the last 3 weeks, they got good news from the Provincial Government- they will receive $661,000 for repairs.

He says the work should get underway this summer after they receive the proposal from the province.
