Kalleo Gives NG Deadline For Dealing With TB Crisis In Nain

Nain Resident Emma Kalleo says she has delivered an ultimatum to the Nunatsiavut Government for dealing with the tuberculosis crisis in Nain.

She is threatening to go to the federal government to get action taken to deal with the outbreak of TB in Nain.

Kalleo is giving NG two weeks to deal with the situation.

She delivered the ultimatum to Nain AngajukKak Joe Dicker to pass on to NG President Sarah Leo yesterday.

This follows a heated discussion between Kalleo and Leo during a public information session in Nain this past Wednesday, May 27.

Kalleo delivered a petition with 216 signatures to Leo at the information session.

She is still going around Nain circulating the petition to have everyone tested in the community.

She is also planning on creating a Facebook page for people to go onto to comment on the TB situation in Nain.

According to Kalleo, a digital x-ray machine for testing for TB in Nain would cost approximately $20,000, and a portable x-ray machine much less.

Anyone with concerns or questions for Kalleo can call her at 922-1104.

NG President Sarah Leo says she hasn’t received the deadline notice, but is working on a press release on the situation.

She is hoping to get that out this afternoon.

OK Radio will have more coverage on this ongoing situation next week.
