Polar Bear Sighting

There was a Polar bear sighting near Makkovik yesterday.

Errol Andersen is the Conservations Officer with the Nunatsiavut Government in Makkovik.

He says according to a Voisey’s bay charter flying passengers to their destination, a Polar Bear was spotted at approximately 10:30 am.

Andersen says the sighting was 4 km away from the community of Makkovik.

The polar bear was sighted outside of Makkovik at Grassy Point.

Andersen says when he arrived at Grassy Point, he only saw foot prints of the animal, but no sign of the polar bear in the area.

The tracks that Andersen saw were footprints of a smaller polar bear.

Andersen says he would like to inform the Makkovik residents to keep an eye out for the bear.

Makkovik residents are asked to be cautious, as this bear can be dangerous.
