Hopedale Water Crisis Update

The town of Hopedale is still very busy working on the low water pressure problem and no water in the homes. It has been a hectic 9 days.

Jim Tuttauk is the AngajukKak of the Inuit Community Government Office.

He says he has all his maintenance crew are back to work.

Yesterday morning between 7 to 8 am another problem happend; the water pumps got iced over and frozen, which cut off the town’s water supply.

Tuttauk says by the afternoon there was a small relief when they thawed out some water pipes and the water stayed at 34 PSI.

He says they are thawing out the council office pipes and from there they will go do the same at the Department of Health and Social Development office, then move to thaw out the residential areas.

The school has a few of its washrooms running, and the clinic water is at 35 psi and the RCMP.

Tuttauk gives a big thank you to Winston Sheppard of Postville for sending 40 cases of bottled water.

And they thank Budgell’s for use of their bigger excavator to dig the ground for leaks in areas, which will be a big help.

He says their back up plan is to keep hauling and fetching water for the community.

There are two provincial government officials in town to check out the water situation; they plan to go back to address the situation with the government.

Ok radio will speak with Tuttauk tomorrow for the AtjiKangitut show.
