2015 Arctic Expedition With Students On Ice This Summer

The 2015 Arctic Expedition will take place from July 27 to August 10, 2015.

Students will have the opportunity to have hands-on experiences and to expand their knowledge of a changing circumpolar world.

During their expedition, while travelling on a ship, they will bring together 100 youth from around the world with inspiring scientists, elders, educators, artists, musicians, CEO’s, dignitaries, journalists, authors and innovators.

Deep in nature and engaged in cross disciplinary activity, students will be inspired, motivated, educated and challenged.

The expedition begins this year in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa.

After several days of pre-expedition activities, they fly to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland to board an expedition vessel and set sail to explore the communities.

Then they explore the eastern entrance of the Northwest Passage, including visits to Pond Inlet, Sirmilik National Park and Beechey Island.

The expedition ends in Resolute Bay, where they will board a charter flight back to Ottawa.

Each day will be filled with exploration, discovery, presentations, workshops, hands-on research, hikes, and lots of adventure.

Activities will include wildlife encounters and visits to Arctic communities, as well as the opportunity to acquire first-hand knowledge and insight into the dynamics of climate change, traditional knowledge, scientific research, and policy and other important Arctic and global topics.

Students on Ice will be celebrating 15 years of Polar Education this year.
