Gordon Milley Pleads Guilty to Murder of Bernice Rich

Gordon Milley has pleaded guilty to the 2nd degree murder of Bernice Rich.

Milley, a 32 year old from Sheshatshiu, entered the plea in the Supreme Court in Happy Valley-Goose Bay yesterday morning.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge of public mischief.

The Crown is asking that Milley be sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of parole for 20 years.

The defence has asked that Milley be eligible for parole after 14 years.

Rich’s body was discovered in a wooded area in Sheshatshiu on June 14, 2013.

Milley turned himself into police the next day and confessed to killing the 21 year old from Natuashish.

He was originally charged with first degree murder, sexual assault, public mischief, and breach of recognizance.

The crown withdrew four of the charges.

Milley’s sentencing is scheduled for May 6, 2015.
