Hopedale State of Emergency Update

Hopedale is still busy trying to restore more water pressure into the town’s businesses and homes.

Today is the 3rd day since a State of Emergency was declared in the town.

Jim Tuttauk is the AngajukKâk of the Inuit Community Government Office.

He says it’s been a hectic situation for everyone involved in town throughout these days.

Tuttauk says the ACM School remains closed today, and the Department of Health and Social Development Office.

The clinic is still running in critical condition.

Tuttauk says more water pumps were set up yesterday afternoon at the old American Base site with the pumps they have, along with the 4 inch one from Nain.

But due to high drifts up on the hill they had to halt the work they were doing.

Tuttauk says the maintenance boys shut off the water to temporarily hook hoses and pumps back up this morning.

He added they are thankful for all the help they are getting from the other communities and are now expecting another 4 inch water pump from Goose Bay today.

Tuttauk says the bottled water did arrive yesterday morning for the residents, and they are expecting more of that in today.

Ok radio will have more details on the water situation in Hopedale as they become available.
