NG Budget A Cause For Celebration

The Nunatsiavut Government has tabled their Tenth Anniversary Budget during their Assembly Sitting in Hopedale this week.

Finance Minister Dan Pottle presented the budget yesterday, which contains money for a special celebration.

77.7 million dollars is budgeted for the 2015-16 fiscal year, which begins April 1st.

Just over 54 million dollars in funding is set aside to deliver programs and services from the federal government under the Fiscal Financing Agreement.

This agreement assures the Nunatsiavut people the same level of programs and services as other similarly-sized communities in Labrador.

The budget also focuses on housing issues, education, language and culture.

It will be the Tenth Anniversary of the establishment of the Nunatsiavut Government in December.

$25,000 has been set aside to help celebrate that milestone.

We hope to speak with Minister Pottle about the budget in the near future.
