Jumpstart Program Helping Minor Hockey

The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program is a national registered charity dedicated to removing financial barriers so children across Canada can have the opportunity to play sports.

This program offers families who cannot afford to enrol their children in organized sports and physical activities.

The jumpstart program makes it possible for all children to participate.

We spoke with Edward William Flowers, the Technical Director for Minor Sports, and a coach in Nain.

He says this program is designed for low income families who cannot afford to pay for the cost to play minor hockey.

The program is funded by Canadian Tire and is offered to all communities that have a minor hockey program.

This funding will help pay for registration fees, equipment, and transportation up to 300 dollars.

Flowers say Jumpstart is offered to different age groups ages 4-18 years.

Here are the age categories for Nain minor hockey:

Ages 4-8 years are the Atoms, ages 9-10 are Peewees, 11-12 years are Bantams, and 13-14 are the Midgets teams.

He adds they are looking for more volunteers; anyone who wants to volunteer can pick up an application form and must have a certificate of conduct.
