Coastal Ice Conditions Update

OKâlaKatiget Society radio department contacted each of the north coast communities about the ice conditions.
In Postville , we spoke to Diane Gear, the AngajukKâk for her community.
She says half of the bay is frozen and the other half is still open water.
Gear says people can go up the bays, but they have to go way down on the other side to travel.
She adds for people who do travel to be careful when traveling.
In Makkovik we spoke to Todd Broomfield, who is a resident in his community.
He says the ice froze over about two weeks ago.
Broomfield says people can travel to Makkovik Bay and Adlavik Bay.
He says it’s not safe to travel on the sea ice yet.
But it is ok to travel on the shore lines.
