Joey’s Award

A Nain man has received Arctic Net’s inaugural Inuit Recognition Award for contributions to Arctic research.
Joey Angnatok has helped out a number of research projects throughout Nunatsiavut.
He uses his traditional knowledge, skills and values in achieving positive results.
Angnatok received his award during Arctic Net’s Arctic Change 2014 Conference held in Ottawa last week.
He used his 65 foot long liner, ”What’s Happening” and its equipment as a coastal and offshore marine vessel in Nunatsiavut and Nunavut.
Angnatok’s crew are entirely Inuit from Nain.
In fact, his longliner is the only 100% Inuit- owned and crewed research vessel in the Eastern Arctic.
He is also a mentor for youth, and is critical to the growth of the “Going Off, Growing Strong” program.
OKalaKatiget Radio hopes to speak with Angnatok about his award in the near future.
