20th Biennial Inuit Studies Conference Coming Up

The 20th Biennial Inuit Studies Conference will be held for 3 days in St. John’s next month.

Dr. Tom Gordon is the Professor Emeritus of the School of Music at MUN.

He says there will be many invited Inuit guests attending this conference from Friday, October 7 to Monday, October 10.

Gordon says the event is co- hosted by Memorial University and the Nunatsiavut Government.

It will bring together hundreds of Elders, knowledge bearers, researchers, artists, policy- makers and students from across the Circumpolar World and beyond.

He says the theme of this year’s conference is, “Inuit Traditions – Inuit PiusituKangit” and the Inuit perspective on life, art, and ways of knowing will be front and centre.

Gordon says an opening announcement and some events will take place tomorrow at 10:30 am in St. John’s.

Some of the attendees include a Research Vice-president from MUN, Minister of Culture, Recreation and Tourism of NG, Artistic Director of Inuit Blanche, and Curator of SakKijâjuk.
